Water Baby

We've spent some quality time in the pool this summer.  I've stocked up on more vitamin D this summer than ever before, which can be quite a triumph coming from a pale porcelain skinned lady like myself.

Thursday morning Garrett and I loaded up and headed out to visit Grandma and Grandpa McCullough.  Mimi and Dedra met us there, and we spent the morning at their community pool splashing, playing, and chasing ducks.  They have the best community pool and splash pad.

It's hard to see his face in this picture, but this is my favorite expression of his.  It's like a shock and awe moment.
This little fella was determined to join in the fun.  Garrett was more interested in the duck (or "wack" as he calls it) than swimming at first.  Some boys chased him out of the water and under the fence.
Garrett loves the water, but does not like for it to get into his eyes.

Stopping for a quick snack with Grandma and "piggy" time.

He had to stop and make sure his belly button was still there.  He loves showing it to strangers and family alike.
 Whew!  It's still there!

He took Grandpa for a few laps around the pool.

After some swim time, we headed back to Grandma and Grandpa's house for lunch and some play time.  Garrett played hard all day long and managed to make it all day without a nap.  He fell asleep before we'd even made it to the end of Grandma and Grandpa's street.  He slept the entire way home, and when we made it home he refused dinner and a bath, (there was a LOT of crying involved) and went straight to bed, sleeping until almost 8:00 the next morning!  He was pooped!!

Our local natatorium and water park hosts Splish Splash story time on Fridays.  The read stories aloud over the PA system while the kids play around the splash park.  Not only is it "educational," it's free!  We were planning to go this Friday, but we were rained out.  After a morning of rain, the sky cleared and we were able to meet up with Aunt Joleen and Caitlyn at the water park that afternoon.  We feasted on some Dipin' Dots, floated in the lazy river and Garrett spent some time exploring the splash pad.  He worked up the courage to play with the water cannons only to be inundated with water when a older kid turned one of the wheels, releasing a deluge of water right on top of our heads.  We were not expecting it, and Garrett was D.O.N.E!!!  He refused to go back into the water after that.  Poor little guy.

The next morning we headed to Cosmic Jump for a birthday party.  Garrett's friend, Conner, turned 3 and they spent the afternoon bouncing and playing.
Garrett braved the bounce house slide until he reached the third or fourth rung on the ladder.  Then I had to help him the rest of the way up.  Mommy got to play with the kids climbing the ladder and going down the slide.  It's hard to resist when this little fella asks you to take him!
He had a blast, until Conner opened his new tricycle.  Garrett is a tricycle addict and thought it was his.  There were many tears shed because mean ole' Mommy wouldn't let him play with it!  Ha!  But, like usual, he forgot all about it once his head touched that car seat.  He was zonked out!
