Happy 4th of July

The 4th of July fell in the middle of the week this year, so we had a few bonus days to celebrate.  The weekend before we packed up and headed to Lake Bridgeport with our friends for some swimming and fajitas.   

The weather was nice, the food was great, and the fireworks rocked. We spent most of the day at the pool, and little G loved it. He's going to be a little fish someday!

He also saw fireworks for the first time. Not sure if he really saw them or not. He was exhausted and it was way past his bed time, but he was a trouper and just hung out.

Sunday afternoon, Ryan's parents came up to visit.  Ryan grilled hamburgers, and G tried out pears for the first time.  We spent the day visiting and playing.  Grandma and Grandpa gave G a new truck and car to play with. 

Tuesday night, our friends, Kevin and Emilie, hosted a BBQ at their house.  G went to stay the night at Mimi and Pawpaw's house.  I made the jalapeno popper dip that is all over Pinterest, but went off and left it in the refrigerator...ugh.  We ended up eating it on the 4th.  I also made a "red, white, and blue" cake, but it ended up looking more like pink, white, and blue.  It was a red velvet (with chocolate chips) cake, with white frosting, and blue sprinkles.  It tasted much better than it looked. Ha!

Wednesday morning my parents brought G back and we all met up with Jeff, Joleen, and Caitlyn for the 4th of July parade.  We found the perfect spot in the shade.

The parade was really cute, and the television crew for Best of the Road by Rand McNally was on site!  They were looking for the best small towns.  How awesome that our small town is in the running.

 

G liked the parade, but he didn't like the sirens and horns on the fire trucks.  He shed a few tears, but quickly forgot about them and enjoyed the rest of the parade. 

After the parade, we went to the Civic Center to hear the band play and see all of the activities they had for the kids.  There were bounce houses and carnival games set up.  The kids could earn tickets for prizes and get their faces painted.  Next year will be even more fun with G since he will be able to play some of the games.  It really started to get hot, so we headed back home.  Ryan grilled some hot dogs twice that day, once for lunch and once for dinner.  Garrett tried carrotts for the first time.  It was hilarious because he would shiver with every bite.  I don't think he was very impressed.

We are lucky to be able to see fireworks from our front yard.  We were actually able to see three different firework shows going on at the same time!  Little G slept through this round of fireworks.
